I recently reread my favorite book, Til We Have Faces, the Cupid and Psyche retelling by C.S. Lewis and Joy Davidson. It’s a beautifully written novel that plays with themes of abjection, beauty and ugliness (physical, spiritual, subjetctive),possessiveness and grappling with the unknown and divine. It’s fascinating to read, especially if you’re familiar with Lewis’Continue reading ““Why Must Holy Places Always be Dark Places?” Til We Have Faces (fanart)”

Blood of the Vassals – Painting
“And the king had a vision even before his birth—of him holding a golden goblet, full of human blood, and from it was toasted all leading men” A painting from my zine, “If All The World Were Mine” of Rigord’s description of Louis VII’s vision in ”The Deeds of Philip Augustus.”
The Sons of God – Flash Sheet style Angel Illustration
A print I made for the 2024 SF Zinefest! It’s inspired by my various tattoo design work over the years. For the theme, I wanted to do something with lots of angel designs of course, with a lot of these inspired by various Old Testament creature mentions—Rahab, seraphim as serpents, etc—and some little reference toContinue reading “The Sons of God – Flash Sheet style Angel Illustration”
Personal Comics: Goodbye 2023, and STAY ON TARGET
It’s been a long year of many personal changes and challenges! Couldn’t possibly fit -everything into one page, but I did my best to do the basics. A lot of my coping with the busy-ness and stress of the year is usually through doing little birdsona doodles like these to express myself, either in myContinue reading “Personal Comics: Goodbye 2023, and STAY ON TARGET”
Building Up Treasures in Heaven – Summer Art and Updates
Earlier this year, while at a workshop at a local gallery, one of my New Years Resolutions was that I wanted to make more Original Art Pieces, and even possibly more Traditional Art (what a novelty!), to contrast with the previous couple years which have focused more on commissions and fan art. This has… notContinue reading “Building Up Treasures in Heaven – Summer Art and Updates”
Azulejo Tile-Inspired Angel
An illustration I made inspired by the azulejos I saw during my visit in Portugal last year! I was very impressed and amazed by the wide variety of patterns and tiles there were on so many buildings. I enjoyed the stylization as well as the blue color that was very common, and wanted to doContinue reading “Azulejo Tile-Inspired Angel”
A Face for Your Comfort
An angel doodle that I turned into its own illustration. It turned out a bit more creepy than I intended but an interesting exploration with colors and layer filters. Thinking a bit about angel as “messenger” and bearer of information rather than personhood necessarily, and how that can lend to some interesting designs. I wantContinue reading “A Face for Your Comfort”
Social Media, Art and Audience during the Great Twitter Exodus
So it seems once again that we are freaking out about having to possibly leave twitter! This feels morbidly fitting given my blog post a couple months ago about being an artist and feeling extremely “online.” Like most big social media shifts, I’m never sure to what extent things will change or stay the same,Continue reading “Social Media, Art and Audience during the Great Twitter Exodus”
Updates and What’s New
Today was one of the first days in a while where I was able to sit down and get a bunch of art “to-dos” out of the way, which was very nice. I ordered a lot of new zines for the upcoming SF Zinefest, responded to Commission emails, and updated my Commission Info sheet/TOS onContinue reading “Updates and What’s New”
